Death's Mirror

Snow White is my favorite fairy tale (I’m sure you’d have never guessed that with as many retellings I read of it!) and this is the first I’ve read from the point of view of a character that most don’t even realize exist in the original story: Death. I can’t help but wonder if it was inspired by The Book Thief.

Regardless, I really enjoyed this dark twist on a classic. It was unique, creative, moved at a steady pace, and actually read like a fairy tale. I loved the way the story was told and how aligned it was with the original story.

I did have trouble at the beginning understanding the connection between Death and the mirror, but as I got further into the story, the connection became much clearer.

Overall, I did enjoy this short story and recommend it to those who love retellings. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
