My Happy Pumpkin: God’s Love Shining Through Me by Crystal Bowman

The Synopsis:

Small children will eagerly open this pumpkin-shaped board book to discover the delightful story and colorful illustrations, by artist Claudine Gevry. Using sing-song rhyme, author Crystal Bowman describes a fun fall tradition carving a pumpkin face. But she adds a twist that helps preschoolers grasp the concept of God s life-changing love for them. Just like we scoop out all the slop found inside a pumpkin, God makes us clean on the inside too.

I received this book from the author/publisher for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are entirely my own.

Review:

Colorful pages, rhyming sentences, and excellent descriptions greet young readers in this book perfect for the Autumn season!

Halloween is a very controversial topic amongst Christian families, however regardless of your stance, this book does well at bringing the Light of the World into such a dark holiday. The illustrations of the pumpkin carving as compared to how God shapes our lives is well-described and easy to understand for children.

Personally, I would have preferred a twist in this book, such as turning the pumpkin into a pie or something aside from the tell-tale face of a Jack-O-Lantern, but that is just because I am not a fan of the holiday at all.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars and do recommend it if your family is seeking to bring light into Halloween.
