Book Blurb:
Kiera’s life is pretty simple—garden, hang out with her best friend, babysit little Jade, and finish up homeschool highschool. But a global war and mandatory draft turn her eighteenth birthday into a nightmare.
Brennan, Jade’s adoptive dad, offers his last name and exemption status, leaving Kiera to question everything she’s ever thought about love. Even worse, she might actually be starting to have feelings for him.
Life settles into a routine before shattering again, and Kiera is left with only one question… If God truly loves her, why is this happening?

Ashlynn’s Review

Sometimes when I choose a book to read, and then don’t get a chance to actually sit down with it for a while, I forget what the back cover says and what to expect. In these instances I actually don’t read it again and let myself be surprised by the story!
This was the case for this Kiera. I remembered being excited to read it, and that it was set in the future, but other than that, it was a surprise. A good surprise, at that! Out of all the books I’ve reviewed so far for this site, this one was my favorite!
Kiera was set in the future, however it didn’t come right out and say so. There were things throughout the story that hinted to it being futuristic, while focusing on the actual story of Kiera, her family, and her church. I really enjoyed Kiera as a person, I felt like she was very mature for her age and I really admired her relationship with the Lord. I do wish the author had put in more details about the time they lived in and what all was going on in the world, but overall I was happy with it.
There might have been a few tweaks here or there I could talk about but honestly, I enjoyed the book so I’d rather just say that! It kept my attention so well that I accidently stayed up until 1:30am to finish it. Kiera’s story and what was happening within the church was thought provoking and real.
After reading the acknowledgements, I also think Kate is a really cool person so the whole experience was very refreshing! 5 stars from me!!
