Where’s My Joey by Wendy Monica Winter

Book Blurb:

Mother Kangaroo cannot find her Joey! Will she find her baby kangaroo before dinner gets cold? Who will help Mother Kangaroo in Australia? Does Koala, Emu or Kookaburra know where Joey is?

Who will help Mother Kangaroo in Canada? Do Moose or Bear or Beaver have any clues? Read and find out!

Written by a Canadian teacher who taught in Australia, this book is entertaining, engaging, and educational on many levels. (It even has a secret spiritual message for those who want to discover it.) Filled with gorgeous illustrations and a beautiful story, this is a book all ages will enjoy as well.

Rayleigh’s Review:

In this beautiful, beautiful picture book, Mama Kangaroo is searching high and low for her social Joey. She goes to all of his favorite spots and visits all of his friends in an effort to bring him home for dinner, but where, oh where could Joey be?

These illustrations are absolutely stunning. The style reminds me a lot of Winnie the Pooh or Beatrix Potter, and in fact, the storyline brought back memories of Pooh’s Heffalump Movie (2005). It’s really sweet.

I also loved that the animals that Mama Kangaroo encounters are very unusual and different than your typical children’s books animals, for example, echidnas, kookaburras, and quokkas. This provides excellent educational opportunities for both parents and teachers!

There are also two gorgeously illustrated maps in both the front and back of the book showing where each of these animal families live for even more educational opportunity! Plus, there’s a maze activity in the back of the book, and (better if you have a physical version rather than the kindle version) a Spot the Difference activity between the two previously mentioned maps. To further maximize the fun, there is a companion coloring book to go with the story!

Overall, I think Where’s My Joey? is a book worth adding to your picture book collection!
