The Reluctant Godfather by Allison Tebo (The Tales of Ambia; 1)

The Reluctant Godfather (1)

The Synopsis:

Burndee is a young and cantankerous fairy godfather, who would rather bake cakes than help humans. A disgrace to the fairy order, Burndee has only two wards entrusted to his care…a cinder girl and a charming prince.

A royal ball presents Burndee with the brilliant solution of how to make his wards happy with the least amount of effort. He’ll arrange a meeting and hope the two fall in love.

A humorous and magical re-telling of Cinderella from a unique perspective.

Okay, this is the cutest retelling of Cinderella I believe I have ever read!

My gracious! Such a creative and hysterical twist to the traditional story. I loved Burndee so much, and could, unfortunately, relate to so many of his sarcastic comments!

As I was reading The Reluctant Godfather, I didn’t even feel like I was reading a short story. There was so much character development, perfectly paced scenes and descriptions, and of course the grumpy fairy godfather made the story flawless. I genuinely feel as if I read a full length novel, nothing was left out!

It’s a clean book, no sexual comments, scenes or anything of the like, and there is no crude language or high action either.

Overall, I really recommend this book to lovers of funny fairy tales! 5 out of 5 stars!

  1. I don’t have a favorite retelling! I do prefer the Cinderella, Beaty and the Beast, and the Little Mermaid retellings. I have never read this author before but I would love to read her stories.

    • I haven’t read any Little Mermaid retellings! I need to find some of those! Allison’s books are definitely entertaining! Thanks for commenting 🙂
